music

Music is magic. It can instantly transport us in time and emotion. It can teach, or simply entertain. Writing music for children gives adults the luxury of revisiting their own childhoods, and if they are lucky, of becoming a part of the childhood of others. Each of these songs is special to me. Each is a piece of my childhood, or of my children's or of the children I know and teach. I hope that these songs will become special to you too. -- Jan --

Chinese New Year is a spring festival, celebrated during our winter. It follows the Chinese Lunar calendar, and falls between mid-January and mid-February. The celebrations typically last for two weeks, although there are many different ways to celebrate. See the list of websites below for more information, and fun craft activities to do!

Gung Hay Fat Choy – Chinese New Year Song
(wishing you good fortune and happiness)

Sing as a fingerplay with the simple hand motions, or pass out rhythm instruments and have children play on the chorus. Or you use as a circle dancing, holding hands and walking around on the chorus, and stopping to make hand motions on the verses

Chorus:
(keep a rhythm patting hands together one hand up, then the other)
Gung Hay Fat Choy, Gung Hay Fat Choy
Sing Happy New Year, Gung Hay Fat Choy

1. The new moon tells us, exactly when
(hold up one hand in C shape for crescent moon)
To celebrate with family and friends (clap hands in rhythm)

2. Clean up the house and get out the broom (pretend to sweep)
Sweep out the old year, bring in the new

3. Bring out the apples, the oranges too (hold out one fist, then the other)
Their colors bring us joy and good luck too

4. The dragon dances, the lanterns light
(place hands together, and snake around )
The firecrackers light up the night
(alternate right and left fist out with fingers opening quickly to mimic shooting fireworks).

Unbelievable Yet True

My Language Arts teacher is a teacher with a great sense of humour and she always tells stories to us. Many of us love her lessons but some do not like. I love her lessons too. Several days ago, she told us a story. It was not really a story but a fact, a truth. My teacher came from India. She said that there are many sages in India. Do you know what are sages? She said that a sage is a kind of monk who prays all day and can communicate with the gods. Sages will not suffer from hunger even though they do not eat and drink for several days. They pray all day so they have special powers.

My teacher said that some sages (some, not all) can find out every data of a particular person through his or her fingerprints. If we give them our fingerprints, they can find out who we were or what we were in the past life. They can tell us if we were a dog, an ant, a cat, a fish, a snake or a leopard etc. If we were humans, they will know who were our parents, how old were we, what were our jobs, who was our wife or husband etc.

Besides, they can actually calculate our lifespan accurately without any mistake. They can tell us what will happen to us in the future, what had happened to us in the past, how long can we live and who will be our wife or husband. And true enough, their words are precisely right. It seems like they have a book that have recorded down every person's particulars, from BC to AC till the distant future.

My teacher and her husband actually went to see a sage to predict their futures. They gave the sage their fingerprints and the sage examined them. Then, he asked about ten questions. After asking questions, they were asked to leave for a while. A while later, they came back. The sage told them everything he knew about the past and what he said was exactly true. From birth to childhood to teenage life and to adult, he described them all correctly. He also told them their lifespans and what would happen in the future. He predicted that my teacher's family would migrate to a country and her son would skip a standard in an international school. At first, my teacher's husband thought it was nonsense because his son would never skip a year, but later he realized it was true when they migrated to Malaysia.

My teacher also told us that her mother was diagnosed with cancer before. The doctors managed to cure her and said she was cancer free forever. So, they went to see a sage. The sage said that she would die a year later due to cancer. And to their surprise and shock, she really died a year later and died of cancer although the doctor said she was cancer free. Everything the sage said seemed to come true and occur. Their predictions are so accurate that a person cannot help believing in them. Many may think that this is supertitious or coincidence but I will not blame you for this because some of my friends do not believe in spirits.

The Power Of Love (ep2)

......He stood rooted to the ground, looking at her as she drown. Then, after a second or more, he raced towards the river and jumped into it with a splash. He swam towards the direction of the woman quickly despite his weariness after a long jog. He managed to grab hold of her and with all his might, he pulled her towards the river bank.

A big crowd gathered around them. The woman lay on the ground. She was unconscious. Now, Noel could see vividly. She was a young woman at her twenties. She had a sharp nose and her heart-shaped lips closed firmly. Her hair was long and black. Noel loved her at first sight. When she regained her consciousness, she coughed several times and heaved a huge sigh of relief. Noel looked at her eyes, her eyes were large and attractive while her pupils were dark blue. She had a lovely look. She thanked him over the din and gave him her contact number, much to Noel's delight. Her name was Jamie.

Since then, they often met each other and had meal together. They chatted freely without hiding anything. The more they dated, the more they loved each other. Noel had totally fallen in love with her. He had not loved a person so much before. It was the first time he had a girlfriend, and he thought she was also the last one. As for Jamie, she also loved him with her heart She had never believed in love before but Noel had totally changed her view on it. His presence was a gift from god, she thought. She was looking forward to marrying him and to becoming his wife.

The love affair lasted for a year. They were a very happy couple.

Until one day, what she saw totally changed her mind on him. What she saw could change her entire life......

The Power Of Love (ep1)

The sky was bright red. The sun was no longer blazing and was setting at the west. The breeze was very cooling. A flock of birds was soaring high up in the sky. The river which was as clear as crystal was still and fishes were swimming leisurely in it. There were several people jogging at the riverside. It was such a lovely and adorable evening

Noel was jogging around the river. The cool air raced to embrace him. He felt relieved. To him, the most relaxing time of a day was the evening when he could jog and enjoy the breeze. he loved the evening the most. He loved the river and the riverside the most. He loved the breeze the most.

He jogged around the river when a loud voice shouting for help emerged. Like a bolt from the blue, the voice shattered the peacefulness of the evening. Sensing that something was wrong, he spotted the source of the noise and turned his head. What he saw nearly took his breath away. What he saw could change his entire life. Near to the riverside, he saw a woman struggling dangerously in the water, hovering between death and life......

the 3 words !!

It's not how you say those three words, but how creative you are in expressing yourself
.

It's funny.I'm starting to get into the mood of CNY as well as valentine's day just for the heck of it. I haven't even started packing my messy table. Shoot, i have to get that work done before CNY and before people come to my house. Oh crap. Too many things are going on in my mind right now.

I guess the school admin created a really CNY mood today, especially minutes before school ended. The headmistress gave a short speech (thankfully!) and later they played some CNY songs. I guess that you're just as dumbfounded as I am now as this is the very first time that i knowed of and experienced such scenarios. Cool! :D

POSSESSION ???

Have you all read today's ( 13-2-10) Sin Chew Daily? There is a news about a spirit entering a woman's body and possessed her. This incident happened in Malaysia. It happend when a family moved to a new house a year ago. The spirit had possessed the woman's body many times. When the possessions occured, the woman had stength and energy that did not belong to her. She was extraordinary strong and several strong man could not even stop her. It was terrying.

The weirdest thing that I could not imagine is that the woman had discussed with the spirit for many times prior to this report. Can you all try to imagine how did they speak to each other? It was quite unbelievable, I must say. This incident had continued for some time and during the torturing period, the woman had lost 20 kilograms.

Things turned well after that. In one of her dreams, she dreamed that the spirit told her that it had now turned into an animal. She said the spirit "tuo meng" (tell her through her dream) that she had become an animal. Since that special dream, the spirit did not disturb and possess her anymore. Maybe that dream was quite true, and it really became an animal.

But the woman complained that she still saw spirits wandering around her house. Luckily, they merely strolled and did not provoke her, unlike the spirit that possessed her earlier. The woman also added that she could not sleep well recently. She would wake up after two to three hours of sleeping and could not resume her sleep after that. She has been consulting a psychiatrist and the psychiatrist gave her sleeping pills but it was futile and to no avail. The psychiatrist said that she had been imagining things due to her lack of sleep.

Who Opened The Window?

My bro's senior told him this incident when he took part in the Asia-Pacific Mathematics Olympiad Competition (APMOPS) last year in Hwa Chong Institution. He took us around the school and introduced the places in the school to us. When we passed the clock tower in the school, he told us a weird incident which he had encountered.

There is a tall clock tower in Hwa Chong Institution. During the Japanese occupation, the clock tower was one of the tallest building in Singapore. It is easy to have the whole view of the island if we stood at the top of it. So, the Japanese used the clock tower as one of their headquarters during that time. They tortured and killed many people in a room at the top of the clock tower.

The story is like this. One night, my senior was walking around the school. The school was empty at that time. Nobody was around, not even a soul. The school was unusually silent. The silence was eerie. He wandered around the school and when he passed the clock tower, he found something unusual. The window at the top of the clock tower was opened, opened widely. Normally, the room at the top of the tower was locked all the time. The key to the room was not with the school. The room is only opened and cleaned once in a long time.

But at that night, the window was opened! Who or what on earth opened the window, I do not know. On the next morning, the senior went back to the same place and the window was closed again, much to his surprise. He could not figure out who opened the window and he considered it as supernatural. I too, have no idea. I hope dear readers can post your opinions, comments or feedbacks.

There are many more unexplained incidents in Hwa Chong Institution too. I will tell you all next time!
